Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia launches new hotline to help seniors connect with politicians
NEWS RELEASE:
Senior Services Launches Hotline To
Connect Senior Citizens With Political Leaders
(Hampton Roads, Va., June 25, 2010) – Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia has created a new way to strengthen the connections between senior citizens and the region’s elected leaders – the “Seniors Want to Know” hotline.
The hotline will help seniors express their concerns to political leaders, especially in preparation for this fall’s congressional campaigns as well as for the 2011 Virginia General Assembly session.
“This new service helps senior citizens and the candidates and elected officials. These political leaders need to have a better understanding of the needs of their senior constituents, which will help create potential solutions for the concerns,” said John Skirven, CEO of Senior Services.
To participate, older adults and their caregivers are invited to voice their thoughts by calling the hotline at (757) 222-4525 and recording their questions in either or both of the following categories:
? What is the one question you would like to ask our region’s candidates for Congress in the November 2010 election?
? What should the Virginia General Assembly do for seniors in the 2011 legislative session?
Questions for the political leaders should be civil and concise. Also, seniors should spell out their names and addresses and leave their phone numbers.
Seniors also may participate by sending e-mails to services@ssseva.org or visiting website www.ssseva.org and clicking on “Seniors Want to Know,” or by sending their questions to “Seniors Want to Know,” Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia, Interstate Corporate Center, 6350 Center Drive, Building 5, Norfolk, VA 23502.
Senior Services will post selected questions on www.ssseva.org and forward to the candidates and elected officials, Skirven said.
